EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ House Bill 4358, which limits screen time to one hour per day for elementary students, boosts physical education and mandates firearm safety training in public schools, advanced past the committee on Wednesday, Feb. 11 — Rep. Anthony Moore said changes for computer-based testing may be made. Stillwater News Press
- ➤ Legislators approved two higher education bills aimed at improving grading practices and support for graduate teaching assistants at the Capitol on Tuesday. The committees advanced the measures following a failed psychology essay (that referenced the Bible) at the University of Oklahoma. Stillwater News Press
- ➤ Lincoln Academy (Stillwater’s alternative high school) received Simmons Bank grants to support its Shop Club and Garden Club after the Stillwater Public Schools Board of Education approved the funding on Tuesday. Stillwater News Press
- ➤ Dr. Bradley T. Ewing was appointed as a Distinguished Fellow at the Hamm Institute for American Energy at Oklahoma State University on Thursday, Feb. 12. He will lend his expertise in energy economics to research advancing energy security and affordability. OSU
- ➤ On Thursday, Feb. 12, the OSU Alumni Association named 23 students as OSU Outstanding Seniors for the 2025-2026 academic year. A private reception will honor the seniors on April 7 at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center in Stillwater. OSU
- ➤ At OSU, Dr. Raj Singh — a Regents Professor — was named Big 12 Faculty of the Year Award honoree on Wednesday, Feb. 11 for his innovative work in materials science and his commitment to mentoring future engineers. OSU
- ➤ OSU Agriculture announced a new wheat variety named Wyatt — after former wrestler Wyatt Hendrickson — on Thursday, Feb. 12 during the Oklahoma Genetics Inc. meeting in Oklahoma City; it is set to hit the market this fall and is one of OSU’s most widely adapted since Duster. OSU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayors from Norman and Stillwater have co-authored legislation requiring OU + OSU to play an annual home-and-home football game for economic development, with Norman council unanimously approving the measure before it heads to the Legislature.
