BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dr. Aaron T. Dossey, who once built insect cages at OSU, started All Things Bugs to make cricket powder that may help fight food insecurity using a patented spray-drying process. His company has received over $5 million in funding and, along with his nonprofit Invertebrate Studies Institute, is seeking investors (reported Friday, March 14).  OSU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Freshmen at Oklahoma State in Stillwater are learning to manage money as they face spending challenges — many now use meal plans and weekly budgets after quickly using up their savings on dining and clothes.  The O'Colly
  • Becca Krause, a student case manager for the Oklahoma State Office of Student Support, hosted a Tuesday workshop that used guided meditation and a self-care planner to help students manage college stress. Her series of three workshops will finish with a final session on April 1 in the Willard Hall living room (students are encouraged to learn the seven pillars of self-care and the five A’s of stress management).  The O'Colly
  • Pete's Pet Posse is hosting a free symposium at the OSU Student Union on April 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—the event will offer breakfast, lunch, a keynote from P3 founder Ann Hargis and a panel discussion led by former OSU President Burns Hargis for OSU faculty, staff and students.  Stillwater News Press
  • Belle Wood, a first-year interdisciplinary studies graduate student at Oklahoma State, has faced repeated difficulties getting disability accommodations due to her mobility scooter, chronic illness, and eye disability—she now sends early emails to professors to set clear expectations. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Primrose Retirement was evacuated Friday as wildfires threatened nearby homes. The City of Stillwater ordered evacuations for residents between 19th Avenue and Sixth Avenue—extending from Range Road to Cottonwood.  Stillwater News Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • OSU Police Chief Michael Beckner met with the Student Government Association one month into his job—he explained plans to keep blue light stations active until a new mobile app is adopted and announced efforts to add parking lot cameras following recent break-ins. He said he will hold officers accountable while working to build trust with students.  The O'Colly
  • The City of Stillwater hired a new police chief on Thursday—city officials noted the appointment as a step toward strengthening local police leadership.  Stillwater News Press

  • Baseball coach Josh Holliday is using one of his best lineups in his 13th season as the Cowboys earned a 9 to 7 record after a month of tough games against ranked teams. They will begin Big 12 play against West Virginia this weekend (hoping to fix mistakes that cost them a ranking spot).  The O'Colly
