COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On March 14, wildfires swept through Stillwater and left the Bolene family without their 23-year home. Joe Bolene, who had emergency surgery in Tulsa, drove back and saw wind chimes that offered a brief sign of hope—only to find his house gone as local groups helped the family begin their recovery.  The O'Colly

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On March 14, professor Bryson Baker was playing basketball when he learned a wildfire was threatening his Crosswinds neighborhood—he quickly grabbed his smaller dogs and returned later with his brother via a side road despite police roadblocks, and although many nearby homes burned, his house survived.  The O'Colly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three OSU students—Adriahna Blackburn, Nash Nevels and Angelique Robinson—were named 2025 Goldwater Scholars on Friday, March 28th by OSU's Office of Scholar Development and Undergraduate Research. OSU earned the most winners among state institutions as the prestigious scholarship recognized excellence in natural sciences, engineering and mathematics.  OSU
  • Adeoluwa Gbolade is a Ph.D. student in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at OSU who is researching sustainable pavements to help fight climate change. Working with his mentor Dr. Deb Mishra, he uses life cycle assessment to test pavement materials and design, and his work is drawing attention from industry and fellow students.  OSU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • OSU held its 15th annual Arbor Day celebration on March 27 by planting three trees near the Life Sciences East building with help from the OSU Native American Student Association and Landscape Services—trees grown at Greenshade Trees in Yukon. OSU Interim President Jim Hess said the event highlighted strong collaboration and honored native plant traditions, supporting the Native Plant Corridor on campus—remarks that show the university’s ongoing commitment to its heritage.  OSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Stillwater has placed an $8.75 million ballot proposition for a new Animal Welfare facility to expand animal care and strengthen ties with the OSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital—early voting ends today at 6 p.m. at the Payne County Administration Building and the Cushing Chamber of Commerce while regular voting is Tuesday, April 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.—and if approved, the bond will raise annual property taxes by about $60 for a home valued at $240,000.  City of Stillwater

SPORTS NEWS

  • A few days after OSU’s wrestling season ended with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships, heavyweight Wyatt Hendrickson and 174-pounder Dean Hamiti Jr. ended their college careers as individual national champions. They are now training at Cowboy RTC in Stillwater to prepare for the Wrestling World Championships in Zagreb from September 13th—21st and to reach world and Olympic titles.  The O'Colly
  • Kim Anderson has supported OSU baseball since the Cowboys’ new stadium opened in 2021, always sitting in her designated seat at games and cheering on the team through wins and losses. Her long-time dedication earned her the nickname OSU baseball’s super fan and led her to form a close group of fans who follow every game.  The O'Colly
  • OSU golfer Preston Stout improved his play this season by reducing mistakes and earning three top-20 finishes, including a third-place finish at the Gators Invitational and a tie for first at the Cabo Collegiate. Coaches praise his progress in keeping his ball in front of him (a change that has helped him compete better against top players).  The O'Colly
