COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Oklahoma State Council of Mineralogical Societies will hold its fourth annual Spring Rock Swap on April 5th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in parking lot No. 29 at OSU, where Stillwater residents can view unique rocks and learn about Earth’s crust.  Stillwater News Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Incumbent Marshall Baker won the Ward 5 seat on the Board of Education for Stillwater School District No. 16 with 4,238 votes (74.9% of the total), defeating challenger Greg Adams. More than 3,600 votes were cast on election day.  Stillwater News Press
  • Dr. Atanu Halder—assistant professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering—is developing a computer model to test and choose the best electric and hybrid-electric aircraft for city travel and military use. The three-year project is funded by the U.S. Army and will also let students in MAE 3724 and MAE 3043 see how basic ideas work in real life.  OSU
  • Oklahoma State University got a $2M gift from the BOKF Foundation during a presentation on Monday and renamed the business school lobby as the BOK Financial Lobby — a sign of the strong tie between the university and the bank. The donation will help pay for the facility's upkeep and support Spears Business students for many years.  OSU
  • Leaders from MidAmerica, Northeast Tech and OSUIT signed an agreement on April 2 to start a training program that teaches electrical and electronics skills for jobs in local factories and energy companies. The program meets a high demand for skilled workers and already has two groups of students set to begin in fall 2025—boosting career opportunities for our community.  OSU
  • On Wednesday afternoon, OSU Students for Justice in Palestine held a quiet sit-in in the Student Union to protest the violence in Gaza, displaying signs that read Free Palestine and featuring the Palestinian flag and colors. Their protest is part of a week-long demonstration that will include a march in Washington on April 5 — they also urged OSU to fly the Palestinian flag at the Wes Watkins Center, increase transparency on its investments, and divest from companies such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing.  The O'Colly
  • On March 25, 18 OSU student teams ran an Amazing Traditions Race where they completed tasks based on OSU traditions from the Cowboy Legends book. The first team finished the race in 32 minutes—earning a $200 prize—while the other teams finished between 35 and 50 minutes.  OSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • The No. 4 Oklahoma State men's golf team finished runner-up behind Oklahoma at the Maridoe Intercollegiate in Carrollton, Texas when they shot 9-over, marking their third runner-up finish and seventh top-three finish; the team will head to the Haskins Award Invitational in Augusta on April 5-6.  The O'Colly
