COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Oklahoma State University stepped in on March 14 to house the Connelly family and four other families affected by last month’s wildfires—offering free campus housing until May 31 as they plan their next steps.  OSU
  • Local musician Scott McKinley lost his home in a March 14 fire that destroyed 98 houses in Stillwater. After picking up his bagpipes and playing a heartfelt version of Amazing Grace that rallied the community, he and his wife now plan to rebuild their lives and home—using music as a way to heal.  The O'Colly
  • Local businesses in Stillwater held a two-day concert series called Stillwater Strong: Red Dirt Rising to raise money for first responders and families hurt by the March 14 wildfires. Organizers gathered local artists and held auctions—actions that showed the community's strong spirit and support.  The O'Colly
  • Oklahoma State University provided aid to wildfire victims nearly three weeks after the fires burned the state on March 14. The university surveyed its community and received responses from (11 students and 48 staff) and helped five families secure emergency dorm housing (with keys ready for pick-up on Monday).  OSU

CRIME NEWS

  • A Cushing woman was issued an arrest warrant after court documents showed she falsely claimed four juveniles were in her home to get $8,899 in food stamps—she submitted 11 applications from January 2021 to October 2024.  1600 KUSH-AM
  • Tyler James Lee Edwards, a 34-year-old from Elk City, attacked his mother with a metal extension cord reel during a May 31 camping trip at Lake Carl Blackwell—he later assaulted two OSU police officers, pleaded guilty on March 18, and received three consecutive 30-year sentences.  The O'Colly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alaura Hatton switched from studying veterinary medicine to English professional writing after her professor—Dr. Hwahyun Lee—helped her gain confidence in OSU’s new Korean program that started in 2022. A petition with over 250 signatures helped keep the Korean classes and minor on campus as OSU plans more study abroad opportunities in Korea.  The O'Colly

SPORTS NEWS

  • With the offseason underway, Oklahoma State men's basketball coach Steve Lutz has yet to add a transfer as nine seniors leave and guard Connor Dow exits after two seasons in Stillwater. Cowgirls coach Jacie Hoyt strengthens her roster with transfers Tyla Heard from Oral Roberts, Haleigh Timmer from South Dakota State, and Amari Whiting from BYU—while guard Kennedy Evans departs.  The O'Colly
  • Coach David Taylor built a strong new base for OSU wrestling in his first season, leading the Cowboys to a third-place finish at the NCAA meet with two champions and six All-Americans—this marks their best record since 2014. He has secured a transfer commitment and top recruits for next season—setting a clear path for more wins.  The O'Colly
