CRIME NEWS

  • An ex-convict from Oilton admitted stealing over $1,000 in groceries, hygiene products, and gorilla tape from Walmart in Cushing and was sentenced on April 15 to 90 days in Payne County Jail — he will also serve three years and nine months probation that requires restitution, drug tests, a DNA sample, and enrollment in Work Force Oklahoma.  Stillwater News Network
  • An ex-convict with a history of drug and gun offenses was arrested in Oklahoma City on April 7 on a $150,000 bond and is accused of fatally shooting Stillwater man Jerry Leon Silas during an argument in an apartment on N. Boomer Road on April 5, with Silas dying after treatment at OU Medical Center and the suspect set to appear in court on May 5 on a first-degree manslaughter charge.  Stillwater News Network
  • Damon Eugene Thomas Sr. — an ex-convict with a long history of drug and gun offenses — was arrested in Oklahoma City on April 7 and jailed on $150,000 bond after an argument on April 5 in an apartment on the 1800 block of N. Boomer Road led to the fatal shooting of Jerry Leon Silas, who died on April 6 at OU Medical Center, and he will face a May 5 court appearance on a first-degree manslaughter charge.  1600 KUSH-AM
  • Jerad Jason Christopher Stephens, a 30-year-old ex-con from Oilton, admitted stealing 124 items worth $1,643.90 from Walmart in Cushing and was sentenced on April 15 to 90 days in Payne County Jail—he must also pay restitution, complete random drug tests, provide a DNA sample and enroll in Work Force Oklahoma.  1600 KUSH-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At OSU, instructors led a hands-on drone training event this week where participants learned to use drones for search and rescue. Christopher Swan explained global drone uses and Capt. Colt Chandler detailed campus emergency response (with support from the OSU Police Department) during a flight simulation.  OSU
  • On April 16, OSU dedicated its new Mary K. Chapman Nursing Simulation Laboratory at its Stillwater campus—this converted cafeteria now serves as an advanced training space for nursing students. The ribbon cutting honored major donors whose gifts strengthen the nursing program.  OSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stillwater Regional Airport earned the 2025 Airport of the Year Award and its director Kellie Reed was named the Airport Manager of the Year by the Oklahoma Airport Operators Association. The airport supports nearly 80,000 annual operations and is building a new terminal set to open early fall.  1600 KUSH-AM

  • SWEAT is a new yoga and fitness studio in downtown Stillwater that offers classes such as barre, yoga, pilates, and more, and holds a free class every Sunday at 3 p.m.—the studio works with local groups to bring unique wellness events to the community.  The O'Colly
