CRIME NEWS

  • A body was found at Boomer Lake near Husband Street Tuesday morning around 9:30 a.m. by the Stillwater Police Department, and the Stillwater Fire Department assisted on scene—residents were asked to avoid the area.  Stillwater News Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine students were given a 3D printed horse skeleton created by Shannon Austin from Edmon Low Creative Studios on Tuesday, April 22—this model gives them a hands-on tool to practice procedures and study equine anatomy.  OSU
  • Jordy Secrest, an apparel design and technology sophomore from Stillwater, was awarded the Wentz Research Grant on April 11 to study bacterial growth on veterinary scrubs—she will work with Dr. Sumit Mandal using state-of-the-art lab equipment to examine washing methods and improve sanitation standards in veterinary practice.  OSU
  • OSU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management signed a memorandum of understanding with Wuyi University on April 22 in the Business Building to plan student and faculty exchanges. The agreement will expand research, teaching and joint programs — a step that builds on OSU’s global partnerships — and benefit both schools.  OSU
  • Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology celebrated its 230th graduating class on April 18 with more than 300 graduates crossing the stage at Covelle Hall. Chad Warmington, president of the State Chamber of Oklahoma, delivered a keynote that stressed how these career-ready professionals will help meet the state’s labor needs — reinforcing the university’s land-grant mission.  OSU

  • On Monday, Stillwater City Council declared April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual assault counselor Ellen Jensen—of Wings of Hope Family Crisis Services—stated that every 68 seconds someone is assaulted in the US and that Oklahoma’s rate is 35% higher than the national average.  Stillwater News Press
