- ➤ Cushing Lions Club partnered with Hough Ear Institute to offer a free hearing aid program and screening for low income adults in Oklahoma—donated hearing aids are refurbished and fitted at no cost while the institute provides free tinnitus support and research. - ➤ A 48-year-old Perkins man (Jason Wayne Bohard) was jailed on a bond of ten thousand dollars on April 30 after a traffic stop in a grocery store parking lot revealed signs of alcohol and marijuana use, and he now faces a June 9 court appearance on a felony fourth DUI charge that could add up to 20 years in prison. - ➤ A Stillwater man, Andrew Niles Rice, 35, with a past criminal record, was arrested after fleeing the scene of an injury accident near Eastgate on April 11 and is set to appear in court with an attorney on June 11—if convicted, he could face a life prison term. Stillwater News Network
- ➤ Jason Bohard, a 48-year-old Perkins man, was jailed on a $10,000 bond after a traffic stop on April 30 in a grocery store parking lot on N. - ➤ A Stillwater man was charged with stalking after a woman reported harassment on April 30 at the 1000 block of N. Boomer — police said Raven Thunderheart Soap, 25, was sweating during questioning and claimed the woman had asked for space but he wanted to reconnect. Stillwater News Press
- ➤ A Stillwater man, Andrew Rice, 35, fled the scene of a crash near 6th Street at Eastgate on April 11 at 3:04 p.m.—he is scheduled to appear in court with an attorney on June 11 and may face a life sentence if convicted. 1600 KUSH-AM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Monday's city council meeting, local developer Cory Williams asked to change the zoning of two South Husband Street properties from residential to commercial use—as the council approved it 4-0 despite a nearby resident's parking concerns. Council members said the change may allow varied future projects, and Williams must follow commercial business rules for any new development—no application has been filed yet. The O'Colly
- ➤ Today, a House committee voted to reject a proposal that would require public schools to ask for proof of citizenship during student enrollment—Senate Joint Resolution 22 also advanced other proposed rules from the State Department of Education. Stillwater News Press
