COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Turning Point Ranch in Stillwater will offer Ranch Camp on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in June for people facing a range of physical, mental, and emotional challenges — the National Weather Service also issued a Flood Watch for the Cimarron River near Ripley and other counties from Saturday afternoon to early Monday morning.  Stillwater News Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • OSU sophomore Brooklyn Hawkins founded In the Middle of a Miracle at 17 to raise pediatric cancer awareness for teenagers—she has built a volunteer network, awarded a college scholarship, and received support from Spears Business as she shares her personal journey as a cancer survivor. The nonprofit gives teen patients a voice and connects them with peers, underscoring Hawkins’ commitment to filling a vital gap in care.  OSU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After record-setting rain on June 5th left Oklahoma gardens waterlogged, experts noted that hard, compacted clay soil from recent construction may leave plants flooded and at risk. OSU Extension specialists advised checking soil moisture before watering, adding compost to improve drainage, and using containers until the soil dries out — measures aimed at safeguarding gardeners’ investments.  OSU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stillwater Fire Department Chief Terry Essary, who served for 28 years, will step down at the end of June to join the Edmond Fire Department—according to the City of Stillwater news release.  Stillwater News Press
  • State Auditor Cindy Byrd announced Wednesday that her audit found that employees at Payne County Environmental Enforcement Office received about $5,089 for hours not worked and used county vehicles for personal trips over 3,300 miles—costing an extra $2,087.  Stillwater News Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine started its Urban Underserved Medical Track to help students care for patients in city areas with little access to doctors—10 new students from the Class of 2026 joined the track in 2024—and they volunteered at Tulsa Day Center on June 5.  OSU
