COMMUNITY NEWS

  • OSU employees affected by the March 14 wildfires are receiving help from colleagues who set up online wishlists from Walmart and Amazon to gather needed items until June 30—items will be distributed privately in the second week of July. Stillwater residents and OSU employees can apply for FEMA and SBA loans through mid-July to cover losses not met by insurance.  The O'Colly

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dr. Douglas Miller will discuss his award-nominated book about Oklahoma musician Jesse Ed Davis at the Stillwater Public Library on Thursday, June 26 at 6 p.m.—Dr. Jared Eberle will moderate the program held at the Stillwater History Museum at the Sheerar on 702 S. Duncan St and books will be available for purchase and signing.  City of Stillwater

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sigma Chi fraternity members are planning a new 87-member house with modern systems and a multi-use gym after three years of design and fundraising—raising $12.1 million in donations for a projected $17 million project. The city council advanced an ordinance to close a public alley—an essential step before construction, with the fraternity using a former Pi Kappa Alpha property to improve access.  The O'Colly
  • CEAT announced academic changes that reorganize its Engineering Technology Division and Schools of Materials Science and Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Architecture into two new schools—MMME and FCEM. Four new school heads, including Dr. Jim Smay, Dr. Heather Yates, Professor Nathan Richardson, and Dr. Mark Krzmarzick, will begin their roles on July 1 to lead these units.  OSU

  • Residents of Stillwater met with City Council on Monday to discuss landscape and irrigation issues at Lakeside Golf course — an alley closure near fraternity and sorority houses and objections to a planned unit development.  Stillwater News Press
  • Payne County Commissioners honored Matt Leverich for rescuing 95-year-old Arzella Dennis during March 14th wildfires that threatened homes in western Stillwater—his quick actions saved her life.  Stillwater News Press
