- ➤ The City of Stillwater will celebrate Independence Day by hosting its annual Boomer Blast and GRDA’s Fireworks Show and Celebration on Friday at 9:30 p.m. at Boomer Lake Park—at the corner of Washington Street and Lakeview Road—where a free 22-minute display is planned. Stillwater News Press
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ OSU researchers bred three new wheat varieties—Paradox, Breadbox and Firebox—that naturally strengthen dough and could reduce the need for gluten additives in bread. The team is now partnering with Shawnee Milling Company to study these varieties, which generated over $300,000 in 2023 but are not yet on the commercial market. OSU

- ➤ Stillwater Police arrested 28-year-old Brandon James Floyd after a 911 call reported he attempted to kick in a door and engaged in stalking during a family situation — a woman said she feared for her life when he aggressively yelled at her. Stillwater News Press
- ➤ Dermaine Leneir Arnett was convicted this week of trafficking methamphetamine (jurors recommended 55 years in prison and a $25,000 fine) and he was remanded to the Payne County Sheriff’s Office with formal sentencing scheduled for Aug. 5. Stillwater News Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Stillwater Public Library’s summer reading program continues in July with a children’s music event by Monty Harper on July 1 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., a Live-Action Minecraft session for teens on July 2 at the Stillwater Armory at 2 p.m., and a family trip to Fire Station One on July 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The library will be closed on July 4 for Independence Day as staff prepare to reopen the main building on July 5 amid possible delays.
