CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Britt Alan Weaver, former president of the Stillwater Pioneer Booster Club, was charged with one count of embezzlement after a forensic audit revealed he misappropriated $23,580 between October 2021 and May 2022 — the Payne County District Attorney’s Office said. Stillwater News Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ OSU-COM student Jada Lusk (a fourth-year med student) was named one of 20 national ElevateMeD Scholars on July 9 and will get a $10,000 scholarship and a mentor to help her care for underserved urban communities. She said the kind doctors who treated her after three knee surgeries as a young athlete inspired her to work in medicine. OSU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oklahoma residents in Cleveland, Creek, Lincoln, Logan, Oklahoma, Pawnee, and Payne counties affected by the March wildfires and high winds can apply for disaster assistant grants or loans until July 22. FEMA—per a recent U.S. Small Business Administration update—will review all submitted applications. Stillwater News Press
- ➤ In May, Oklahoma National Guard leaders and OSU history professor David D’Andrea visited battle sites in Campania to honor the 45th Infantry Division’s sacrifices during World War II. They began planning the (Thunderbird Trail) project, which will feature a monument in September near Paestum to pay tribute to these veterans. OSU
