CULTURE NEWS

  • Eskimo Joe’s co-founder Stan Clark opened a sealed time capsule during the 50th anniversary celebration on July 21, revealing memorabilia like the original flyer and a 45 vinyl record that reflect the bar’s early days, while a packed audience listened to his stories. Mayor Will Joyce then proclaimed Eskimo Joe’s 50th Anniversary Day and praised the establishment’s long-standing role in shaping Stillwater’s community (including its traditions).  The O'Colly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at OSU named three students as the 2025 W.W. Allen Scholars on July 21. Camden McDonald from Bartlesville received the Boys and Girls Club Scholar award with $15,000 per year – his strong grades and service earned him the honor – while Piper Swain from Tulsa and Austin Wallick from Burleson were named W.W. Allen Scholars with a $10,000 annual award plus support for networking, travel and full tuition and housing to earn a master’s degree at Cambridge.  OSU
  • OSU finance instructor Amit Bansal helped his 11-year-old son, Shivam, publish his debut novel—Secret of the Dragons—which comes with a coloring book and is sold at local bookstores and on Amazon. Bansal said his guidance through the publishing process gave Shivam a real-life lesson in entrepreneurship that shows parents creative ways to introduce business skills to their children.  OSU
  • The Rolling Thunder Book Bus will roll to Stillwater Public Library on August 12 at 10 a.m. for K-5 children to explore the bus and pick a free book. Space is limited—families must register early to secure a spot—as the bus carries over 2,000 titles and Thunder gear.  City of Stillwater
  • John Michael Riley received the Ferguson College Excellence in Undergraduate Advising and Mentoring Award on July 21 for his work as an associate professor in the OSU Department of Agricultural Economics. He teaches classes, advises students, and mentors colleagues—efforts that earned him the honor—while guiding research and career insight.  OSU
  • Oklahoma State University’s Dr. Caitlin Barnes was named to the Leadership Oklahoma Class 38 group on Monday, July 21st. She is the only OSU staff member among 48 professionals and will join a 10-month program that visits sites across Oklahoma — to learn new skills and share fresh ideas.  OSU
