CRIME NEWS

  • A 67-year-old man from Stillwater was arrested during a June 25 traffic stop when a police dog detected methamphetamine—he admitted to trading the drug for sexual favors and is set to appear in court on Aug. 13.  Stillwater News Network
  • The Stillwater Police Department said two people died—one person was taken into custody—in a fatal shooting early Monday morning at the 200 block of west Elm Street around 1:14 a.m.  Stillwater News Press
  • Police charged a second man with conjoint robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, malicious injury to property and feloniously pointing a firearm after a May 30 sledgehammer attack left one man injured and his stepfather fatally shot — an affidavit detailed that the assault arose from accusations of theft and vandalism involving a truck, barn and tractor.  Stillwater News Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Stillwater Public Library will host its 2025 'Stillwater Reads' series from Sept. 4—28 with author appearances by Sheldon Russell and Sarah Guillory discussing their books 'Listen' and 'Nowhere Better Than Here'. Free book pickups begin on August 18 as the library offers scheduled discussion sessions, hands-on activities, and a special exhibit to engage the community.  City of Stillwater

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lauren Chaney, a recent OSU graduate, was awarded a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Monday, July 28, for her academic record and leadership—she will begin her doctoral studies in veterinary medicine this fall. She is one of only two students from Oklahoma to earn the honor.  OSU
