CRIME NEWS

  • A 24-year-old Stillwater man pleaded guilty last month to passing forged checks totaling $1,974.42 to Williams Food in Perkins on July 15 and for entering Stillwater Screen Printing on Oct. 22 with intent to steal copper—he reported to Payne County Jail to serve 90 days before beginning probation that requires paying $1,677.30 in restitution, a substance abuse evaluation, and random drug tests.  Stillwater News Network
  • A 48-year-old Perkins man received a five-year prison term and five years of probation for his fourth DUI after previous offenses in Logan, Major and Osage counties—his plea agreement mandates he complete a substance abuse evaluation, random drug tests, full-time work and install an ignition interlock device.  1600 KUSH-AM
  • Steven Haggard, a 55-year-old ex-convict working at Lazy L Motel in Cushing, was arrested on July 15 after police discovered methamphetamine, packaging materials, digital scales, currency, and pistols hidden in his room—he faces trafficking charges with a September 8 preliminary hearing pending.  1600 KUSH-AM
  • Larry Joe White Jr. admitted damaging a bouncer’s Harley Davidson motorcycle after being removed from a bar near Oklahoma State University campus and received a 90-day jail term with two years of probation—he also must pay restitution and continue mental health treatment.  Stillwater News Network

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stillwater Public Schools is building a new high school that will house 1,960 students and move 9th grade from junior high—adding extra classrooms and a 36,240 square foot performing arts wing to support future growth. The project is scheduled to complete in fall 2026 and will include demolishing the current building—saving over $30 million in renovation costs as part of the district’s long-term vision.  The O'Colly

  • Oklahoma lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are working on new rules to lessen the impact of medical debt—efforts aimed at ensuring hospitals provide clear pricing before procedures occur.
