CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Tickets for two season-opening performances at McKnight Center will go on sale August 11 as local fans plan for the upcoming season. A heat advisory warns that heat index values between 105—110 degrees are expected today from 1 PM to 8 PM across parts of the region, and officials urge residents to stay hydrated and indoors. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Oklahoma’s new social studies standards will be implemented for the new school year — the state Supreme Court declined to pause them. A group of 33 parents, faith leaders and teachers filed a lawsuit on July 1 asking state officials to block the changes. Stillwater News Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Oklahoma on Tuesday over a state law that gives undocumented immigrants access to state tuition and financial aid at colleges. The agency argues that the law violates the Supremacy Clause — it has asked the Eastern District of Oklahoma to nullify the statute. Stillwater News Press
- ➤ Charles McCall, Oklahoma’s longest-serving Speaker of the House, announced his run for governor and said education will be his top focus if elected. A heat advisory is in effect today from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. CDT for parts of Oklahoma and northern Texas—temperatures may reach a heat index of 110. Stillwater News Press
