COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Stillwater residents and OSU students gathered outside the McKnight Center for a free outdoor movie night—free popcorn and water were provided with a screening of Shrek the Musical. The center will show Dick Tracy later today.  The O'Colly

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fort Worth-based AmeriBand is developing the AspireCVD engine that uses a wobble plate to adjust displacement and may be 50% smaller, 50% lighter and improve fuel efficiency by over 60% when built. The company, which has secured six patents and is collaborating with Oklahoma State, said the Army is interested but real tests are needed—no physical engine exists yet.  OSU

CRIME NEWS

  • Political student organizations at OSU condemned the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and urged respect for his family while planning a memorial service for Sept. 16 at 7:00 p.m. on Library Lawn — they stressed the need for peaceful dialogue amid rising tension.  The O'Colly

CULTURE NEWS

  • Samantha Jezek, an OSU alumna based in Tulsa, shared her journey from addiction recovery to a thriving art career as she painted live with bands in Stillwater on Wednesday, September 10. Her vibrant works—marked by bold colors and abstract forms—send a message of strength and unity for women.  OSU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The OSU Mortar Board Honor Society announced its Top 20 freshmen men and Top 20 freshmen women list that includes nine students from the College of Education and Human Sciences — interviews for the Top 10 will be held Sunday, Sept. 14 with decisions coming on Monday and Tuesday.  OSU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Conservation groups appealed a Texas court decision that reduced Endangered Species Act protection for the lesser prairie chicken, a near-flightless bird found in Eastern New Mexico and four other states—federal officials had designated its southern population as endangered and its northern population as threatened in 2022. The groups argued that reinstating these protections is vital for the bird's survival.  Stillwater News Press
