COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ OSU launched its United Way of Payne County 2025-26 campaign yesterday at a campus luncheon with President Jim Hess and co-chairs Jane Carpenter and Dr. Jayson Lusk. The campaign aims to raise $310,000 and will host future events such as a cornhole tournament on Oct 3—supporting local services. OSU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ OSU earned a prestigious 5 Star rating in the QS Stars rankings on September 24 because it showed excellence in teaching, research, employability and internationalization—this rating places it among an elite group of universities recognized for high academic and global engagement. OSU
- ➤ State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced he will resign from his post—leaving over a year left in his term—to lead the Teacher Freedom Alliance, a conservative teacher group; he expects the resignation to take effect in early October. Stillwater News Press
- ➤ Elisabeth Walker became OSU’s International Students and Scholars director in 2024 and brings more than twenty years of international education experience to support students in Stillwater. She will work to double the current 1,500 international students—adding focus groups, surveys, and partnerships with immigration attorneys and OSU Career Services. OSU
- ➤ Yesterday, OSU Global celebrated three key anniversaries that reflected its long legacy in global engagement and education—marking the 75th Anniversary of the Point Four Program, the 40th Anniversary of the Oklahoma/Kyoto Sister State partnership, and the 25th Anniversary of the School of Global Studies. OSU
- ➤ OSU researchers are studying how disasters can cause failures in energy, water and communication systems to help keep our community safe. Dr. Chen Chen will use computer models and develop a resilience index—this project, funded by the OSU Hamm Institute, will work with state agencies to improve recovery and protection plans. OSU
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fall armyworms increased in Oklahoma after cooler, wetter weather produced lush vegetation for moths to lay eggs—farmers in Payne County reported heavy infestations on their land and are now stepping up daily scouting to protect crops. Experts advised growers and homeowners to contact local Extension offices if they find 3—4 larvae per foot of row to prevent serious losses in winter wheat and on lawns. OSU

- ➤ The Hamm Institute for American Energy at OSU and OSU Global have partnered with SK Energy on an energy security project in the Indo-Pacific region+ the project aims to strengthen energy supply and reduce market risks. Funded by a $50 million donation from Harold Hamm, the team uses advanced data modeling and interviews to craft policy ideas and is seeking new partners to expand its research. OSU
- ➤ Local candidates in Payne County announced plans to run for Oklahoma House seats — they will join the upcoming campaign to represent local communities. Stillwater News Press
