EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Stillwater Public Library and the Payne County Extension Office are hosting a 'Canning Your Harvest' workshop on October 14 from 6 to 7 p.m.—space is limited and registration is required. Attendees will learn safe canning methods including the differences between pressure and water bath techniques.  City of Stillwater
  • OSU's Spears Business accounting students received OSCPA scholarships for the 2025-26 school year; eight students were among 40 recipients, with Emmy Alfred winning the Robin Byford Scholarship. The awards, ranging from $1,000 to $4,000 and totaling over $65,000, will help support their study in accounting.  OSU
  • Courtney DeKalb-Myers became Oklahoma State University Extension’s new consumer horticulture specialist on Monday, September 29 by drawing on seven years of county-level experience in Cleveland County — she earned her horticulture business degree at OSU and is working on her doctorate in crop science with research focused on boosting tomato production during hot summers.  OSU
  • OSU’s Basic Needs program worked to ease food insecurity after Hunger Action Month by offering a pantry in the Student Union basement — a resource used by over 3,000 students each year. The program also connects students with campus supports through donations and volunteer help.  OSU
  • OSU hosted its second annual Lead Week, a campuswide program that gave students leadership lessons, networking mixers and mental health sessions. The event, held Sept.15—19, featured a keynote panel from BOK Financial and a Legacy Talk by OSU President Jim Hess, and winners of the Cowboys Inspiring Change Challenge will be named next month.  OSU

  • Save Our Sunsets urged the Payne County Commissioners on Sept 22 to stop the Cimarron Link project—saying that the use of eminent domain for transmission lines and wind turbines risks family lands and disrupts local pastures and wildlife.  The O'Colly
