- ➤ Today, the Stillwater Board of Realtors kicked off the Harvest II Community Food Drive earlier than usual and is already collecting monetary donations—this effort focuses on fresh contributions rather than only canned and dry goods. Stillwater News Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A federal court ruling by Judge Ronald White on Aug. 29 barred more than 40 OSU students from receiving in-state tuition because the law allowing undocumented high school graduates to pay the lower rate was found unconstitutional. The state education board revoked its policy on Sept. 5—complying with the decision—and affected students must now pay the higher out-of-state rate or prove residency. The O'Colly
- ➤ On Wednesday night, the OSU Student Government Association held a meeting where junior J.R. Stipp-Bethune criticized the group for low student engagement and unfilled senate seats—he said SGA has little power to change things for the students. SGA President Wesley Hurlbut agreed and said the group will work to improve outreach with plans like mass emails—new steps meant to bring in more student voices. The O'Colly
- ➤ OSU’s Advanced Materials and Additive Manufacturing Laboratory—led by Dr. Srikanthan Ramesh—showed how custom-made materials can improve electronics, health care devices and aircraft parts yesterday; students and researchers used a layer-by-layer process to build special sensors and tissues for new projects. - ➤ Oklahoma State University has been demolishing the old power plant on Hall of Fame Avenue and will turn the site into a green space maintained by Landscape Services. The project is expected to finish by the 2026-2027 school year+ plans include widening the sidewalk and planting trees for shade. The O'Colly
- ➤ Tinker Federal Credit Union’s financial wellness team is partnering with Stillwater Public Library to offer a free fraud awareness workshop on October 16 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.—attendees will learn how to recognize scams and protect their finances. City of Stillwater
- ➤ Oklahoma State University's College of Education and Human Sciences honored 10 teachers with tickets and prize packs at the OSU vs Baylor football game on Sept. 27 as part of its TeachOrange initiative after selecting them from over 700 entries. The award recognized educators from across Oklahoma (including Stillwater's Ashley Dobbs) and acknowledged their commitment to classroom success. OSU
- ➤ On October 3, the OSU Foundation Board elected five new trustees and a new board chair—Bryan Begley was named board chair while Eddy Ditzler, Kayleen Ferguson, Spencer Haines, Lindel Larison and Teri Shaffer joined the board. OSU
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Mary Foltz, an assistant professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was awarded a prestigious NSF CAREER grant of about $550,000 on October 3 to support research on sustainable agriculture and crop resilience in a changing climate — her project will also develop a user-friendly tool for farmers and establish a statewide mentorship program. - ➤ Stillwater Animal Welfare educates pet owners on the benefits of vaccines and spaying/neutering to protect pets from disease — the effort comes as rabies cases in Payne County have risen. The shelter also promotes low-cost vaccine clinics and regular vet visits to keep pets and people healthy. The O'Colly

- ➤ Coach Steve Lutz said the Cowboys added nine new players to boost scoring and versatility for the season. He said the transfers and young talent will help spread the floor and shoot more from long range—improving the team's style of play for upcoming games. The O'Colly
- ➤ On a Thursday night in Lubbock, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls lost 4-0 to Texas Tech at John Walker Soccer Complex—Texas Tech scored early and hit three more goals, leaving OSU with a 4-6-2 record as they try for their first conference win. The O'Colly
- ➤ Oklahoma State football named Clint Bowen as interim defensive coordinator—he was promoted after Todd Grantham was fired after a loss to Baylor—and he will lead the defense today at 2 p.m. CT against Arizona while stressing basic tackling and shift handling. The O'Colly
- ➤ Oklahoma State women’s basketball retooled its roster by adding depth at guard and shifting to a more aggressive defensive style, according to coach Jacie Hoyt. The team plans to boost performance with improved shooting and leadership from returning players+ new talent as they prepare for the season. The O'Colly
