EDUCATION NEWS

  • OSU is building a 255,000-square-foot veterinary facility to replace its current teaching hospital using a historic $250 million appropriation — the largest in its history. The plan boosts the veterinary workforce and supports rural Oklahoma by increasing in-state seats and offering scholarships for students committed to serving underserved areas.  OSU
  • OSU student Tom Booth moved from England to Stillwater Tuesday, October 7 to join the Human Performance and Nutrition Research Institute where he works on wearable technology to improve postural recovery. He is also co-authoring a review paper on ergonomic recommendations to be submitted on October 15—bringing a global perspective to local research.  OSU
  • The state Department of Education released test results on Monday that show statewide reading and math test scores for Oklahoma public schools dropped after returning to rigorous scoring—only 27% of third graders met reading standards and 33% met math goals this school year compared to 51% and 38% the previous year.  Stillwater News Press

  • Rep. Trish Ranson from Stillwater was named Women In Government State Director for Oklahoma and will communicate on critical policy issues. She plans to amplify the work of women lawmakers across the nation—her appointment supports bipartisan collaboration in addressing statewide topics.  Stillwater News Network
  • Tim Gatz, head of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, said the federal government shutdown is not yet delaying highway projects but may force the department to make tough choices if Congress does not agree on long-term funding.   • OSU officials reported that water at Morrill Hall is safe despite an April violation when trihalomethane measured 0.082 mg/l—slightly above the limit of 0.080 mg/l. Treatment staff fixed the issue within 48 hours due to a temporary glitch in the chemical feed system.  The O'Colly
