CULTURE NEWS

  • Cody Canada of Cross Canadian Ragweed said he is planning new music with the band as they hint at a second round of reunion concerts after sold-out shows at Boone Pickens Stadium in April and McLane Stadium in August — he also mentioned a desire to bring longtime producer Mike McClure back into the group.  Stillwater News Press
  • Last Saturday, Block 34 in Stillwater hosted an event with four live groups that drew a large crowd — a project that began planning back in 2015. Local organizers say the entertainment shows the community’s growing commitment to quality performance.  Stillwater News Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fall Honors College Award Presentation took place on Friday, October 3rd at 4 p.m. in the Student Union Little Theatre to honor 190 students who earned General, Departmental, or College awards during the 2024-25 school year—recognizing their academic achievements.  OSU
  • Ronit Kayastha, a master’s student at OSU, is studying why drivers speed in work zones after over 7,100 collisions led to 91 deaths and more than 1,200 injuries between 2017 and 2022 statewide—research that will help ODOT and state leaders improve safety measures. His study uses driver surveys and statistical analysis to assess enforcement strategies that could reduce future risks.  OSU
  • College students face busy schedules, so a recent article offers ideas for simple side hustles—like food delivery, freelance tutoring, babysitting, ridesharing, dog walking, upcycling, and selling on Facebook Marketplace—to earn extra money on their own time.  The O'Colly
  • Students have many options for studying on campus and in town—quiet rooms are available in the Edmon Low Library, North Classroom building, and dorms while group work can be done at the Student Union, local coffee shops, and dining halls. FINANCE NEWS

  • The Oklahoma State University Foundation endowment reached a record high of $1.083 billion but returned 10.2% instead of the benchmark 14.2% because private investments underperformed. The report noted that over $20 million in scholarships supported about 8,300 students while the fund doubled over the last 10 years — reflecting ongoing support for the university.  The O'Colly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lindel Fields—an Oklahoma State alumnus—was sworn in as state superintendent of public instruction on Tuesday after Gov. Stitt appointed him following Ryan Walters’ resignation. He said his focus is on improving reading skills, keeping teachers in classrooms, and setting clear career paths for students as he works to steady local schools over the next 15 months.  The O'Colly
  • The Hamm Institute for American Energy at OSU and the American Conservation Coalition launched the Energy Freedom Tour in Cambridge on October 8 to bring together government leaders, industry experts, and students for discussions on building strong energy systems. The event featured U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and former Secretary Ernest Moniz (key figures in energy innovation) and will visit campuses including OSU as it continues its tour.  OSU
  • Former state Superintendent Ryan Walters’ chief of staff, Matt Mohler—accused of fostering a hostile work environment—left the Oklahoma State Department of Education after joining in January from Florida; several senior staff had also departed in the months following his hiring.  Stillwater News Press

  • Dr. Courtney Bir worked with OSU expert Dr. Leticia Fanucchi to adjust Lucy’s medication and daily routine to ease her severe anxiety—resulting in the 12-year-old dog showing a calmer demeanor after receiving care at the OSU Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.  OSU
  • Discovery Lab and OSU Medicine are launching Curiosity Clinic—an exhibit that teaches children about science and health care careers. The exhibit will run through November.  OSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jadyn Wooten, a freshman point guard, is set to lead the Cowgirls after coach Jacie Hoyt highlighted her strong passing and clutch play from last season—she boosted team confidence during a comeback win against TCU.  The O'Colly
