CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Center for Sovereign Nations at OSU is hosting free student-led campus events all November to celebrate indigenous heritage and educate students on tribal sovereignty—featuring activities like native-themed bingo, traditional lunches, and a canine therapy session. Past events include a NASA Meeting Powwow 101 on Nov. 6 while a contest powwow is happening today and more events are scheduled for Nov. 12, 14 and 17—offering ongoing ways for students to learn about local indigenous culture. - ➤ OSU published a photo essay on November 7 that features students sharing how the Cowboy Code guides their actions and builds campus community. The essay shows personal stories from students from both rural areas and abroad that reflect a legacy of over 125 years—continuing a tradition of service, respect, and hard work. OSU
- ➤ On Oct. 31, the Riata Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship awarded over $10,500 in scholarships to 21 OSU student entrepreneurs who presented their business ideas at the Innovation Expo in the Business Building. Overall winner Steve Azzaro of Az-Tec LLC received $2,000, and other students earned awards in different categories as they got feedback from the judges & worked to refine their ventures. OSU
- ➤ Oklahoma State University launched a new brand campaign called The Code Calls that reflects its long history and unites the Cowboy family with a promise to do what is right even when it is hard—an embodiment of its core values. The campaign will roll out across the state and beyond with videos, prints and digital storytelling featuring students, alumni and faculty. OSU
- ➤ Seven students and three teachers from Stillwater Middle School traveled to Kameoka, Japan on a 10-day cultural exchange built entirely on local fundraising and volunteer help. They learned about Japanese school life, visited local sites, and stayed with host families (the program began in 1989 and resumed after a 14-year pause). The O'Colly
- ➤ Dr. Brent Marsh has begun his role as vice president for student affairs at OSU and has worked in Stillwater for two months—he plans to expand student services by growing the Pete’s Eats food pantry and launching the Career Closet in spring to support the Cowboy community. Marsh has a deep commitment to the values of the Cowboy Code and looks to guide both staff and students forward. OSU

- ➤ Oklahoma State University sociologist Dr. Ashley Railey used community partnerships and evidence-based strategies to reduce substance use stigma in rural areas, noting that economic hardships have contributed to rising substance concerns. Her work, which was featured on a podcast in October, advocates harm reduction and closer collaboration between researchers and local communities. OSU

- ➤ OSU athletic director Chad Weiberg is widening his candidate pool for the football head coaching search as competition grows among top programs. The potential dark-horse names include Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, Oregon running backs coach Ra'Shaad Samples, New Mexico coach Jason Eck and Alabama offensive coordinator Kane Wommack. - ➤ After missing three games with an injury, OSU quarterback Zane Flores returned today and threw his best game ever in a 38 to 21 loss to Kansas, completing 22 of 28 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns. - ➤ OSU's Brian Musasu won his third Big 12 title on Oct. 31 in Lawrence, Kansas — marking only the second time a runner has achieved the feat in conference history while his team recorded one of the lowest scores ever.
